The nation’s leading nursery group is preparing to return to its roots and open a new flagship setting in the Staffordshire city where it all began.
Busy Bees has grown to have more than 930 nurseries in 10 countries across the world since starting out in Lichfield in 1983.
As the company celebrates its 40th year in business, it is also putting the finishing touches to its new purpose-built, state-of-the-art nursery on Birmingham Road.
The nursery – set to be officially opened on 26 April – has created 40 jobs and will set the standard for future Busy Bees settings.
It will accommodate 110 children and has been designed with particular environmental and sustainability specifications. These include solar panels and air source heat pumps providing energy for the building, electric car charge points and even an external living wall to increase biodiversity.
Marg Randles, co-founder of Busy Bees, said: “We are excited to be close to opening our new Lichfield nursery.
“I founded Busy Bees in Lichfield in the early 80s, alongside John and Lynn Woodward, and my husband Pete, after struggling to find a childcare solution that fit our lifestyle and ambitions for early years education.
“That first nursery formed the blueprint for Busy Bees nurseries today, so it feels poignant to be returning home to Lichfield to launch a brand-new nursery in the business’ 40th year.
“The new, purpose-built centre will be a truly exceptional space with state-of-the-art facilities and educational resources, alongside a highly experienced, friendly team that I know is ready to welcome families and give children the best start in life.”
Busy Bees currently employs more than 8,800 people in the UK.
It currently has three nurseries in Staffordshire – in Uttoxeter, Burntwood and Burton upon Trent – as well as its National Support Centre in Burntwood.
