Canalside Farm named best in the Midlands by Farm Shop and Deli Retailer Awards

1 min read

A farm celebrating its 40th anniversary this year has been named best in the region.

Family-run Canalside Farm, in Great Haywood, won Large Retailer of the Year in the Midlands at the Farm Shop and Deli Retailer Awards

The farm, situated by the Trent and Mersey Canal, was purchased by Chris and Wendy Barton in 1983 and grew from a commercial fruit farm to a small cabin selling produce to surrounding villages.

Continued growth has seen two extensions to the farm shop to take it into its current form as popular destination, also home to a café, seasonal plant centre and pick your own fruit experience.

The prize follows on from winning the title of Small Farm of the Year in 2020 in the Farm Retail Awards.

Anna Barton, Head of Business Development, said: “None of it would be possible without the continued support of our customers, which we so appreciate, and our amazing teams both in the farm shop and café who truly make our little business so special.”

The farm shop includes an artisan bakery.

Canalside’s award-winning farm shop has its own butchery, artisan bakery and deli. It also stocks fresh produce and homewares.

The butchery’s Whiskey Business Sausage, Soy and Mango Sausage and Firecracker Sausage all picked up awards at the Golden Cleaver Awards earlier this year.
