1 min read

Film-makers are being encouraged to enter a competition celebrating Staffordshire.

The Staffordshire Day Film Competition is back for a third year as part of the annual county celebrations on Monday, 1 May 2023.

Films submitted must have been made within the past five years and should promote something related to Staffordshire tourism and hospitality.

There are four categories – Best Documentary, Best 3-Minute Promo, Best Animation, and Overall Winner – with prizes of tickets for Drayton Manor Resort, SnowDome, Uttoxeter Racecourse, and Nelson’s Distillery & School for the winners.

The overall winner will also receive a cheque for £250 from the competition sponsors, Staffordshire Film Archive

Staffordshire Film Archive’s Ray Johnson, who is one of the judges, said: “Staffordshire is a great county, with a reputation as a hub of creativity which should be celebrated.

“We are delighted the Staffordshire Day Film Competition is returning and look forward to seeing the entries, which can promote anything related to Staffordshire tourism, including attractions, country parks, restaurants, pubs and events.

“We are looking for documentaries, promotional films and animations, for example a vlog on a visit to a Staffordshire attraction, a film made on a smartphone for Facebook or Instagram, or a Day in the Life-style documentary focussing on a particular skill or role.”

The competition is organised by Enjoy Staffordshire, and curated by Centre Space Arts

Entries need to be submitted before Monday, 17 April.

Other judges are film-makers Darren Teale MBE of video production firm Junction 15 and Darren Washington, from One One Six.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Mitchell Arts Centre, in Stoke-on-Trent, on Staffordshire Day – Monday, 1 May.
