Local elections: Have you booked your place for Stoke-on-Trent City Council debate between Councillors Abi Brown and Jane Ashworth?

People are being reminded to submit questions and sign up to attend a free one-off political debate that will see the leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council go head-to-head with the leader of the opposition. 

Councillor Abi Brown, the Leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council (Conservative Party), and Councillor Jane Ashworth (Labour) will debate their policies in front of a live audience less than a week before the crunch local election. 

The Hustings Event will take place on 28 April at Commerce House on Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent, the headquarters of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce.  

It will the first and only time ahead of the May 4 election to see the two key figures go head-to-head before the local election. 

All 44 seats are up for grabs on the city council, and councillors are elected for a four-year term. So what happens at the ballot box will have a huge impact for years to come.  

It will also act as a barometer for the way voters are leaning ahead of a UK general election, which is expected to take place next year. 

The free event is open to members of the Chamber and non-members. Attendees can put forward their questions in advance by completing an anonymous form.   

The hustings session will be hosted by Daily Focus Editor Nigel Pye of i-Creation who has covered local and national politics and elections for 30 years.  

Advanced booking for the event, set to take place from 9:00am – 10:00am, are essential. No walk-ins will be permitted.Places can be booked here
