University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has been shortlisted for an award for work linked to patient safety.
The organisation is among finalists in the Patient Safety Team of the Year category at this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards.
It specifically links to a bespoke quality and safety scheme designed to promote and deliver care excellence. The Care Excellence Framework (CEF) is an internal accreditation system providing assurance from ward to board.
Rebecca Ferneyhough, Head of Nursing at UHNM’s County Hospital, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted as HSJ Patient Safety Team of the Year.
“Our CEF was established in 2016 but in 2022 went under a refresh to ensure its compliance against the CQC Quality statements, the UHNM Quality Strategy and the Trust’s strategic priority domains. The process is underpinned by UHNM’s values of Compassion, Safe, Together and Improving.
“The CEF is delivered in a supportive style fostering a culture of learning, sharing and improving, as well as reward and recognition for achievement.
“We are able to demonstrate improvements and trends over time which help to benchmark and spread excellence across the organisation, and we are thrilled it has been recognised in this way.”
The team will now have to present to a panel of judges and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester on 18 September.
