Stoke on Trent College has been awarded £1.5 million for developing new facilities which will also see the launch of three new T Levels.
Half of the sum will be used to support the development of the Health and Science provision leading to the introduction of two new T Levels available from 2024: Supporting the Care of Children and Young People and Supporting the Midwifery Team.
These will add to the portfolio of health and science T Levels due to start this September.
A further £750,000 will support the new Broadcast and Digital Media T Level, further developing the College’s extensive digital and creative offer.
Principal and CEO Lisa Capper MBE, pictured above, said: “We are thrilled to receive this additional funding and welcome the support provided.
“Broadcast media, digital and health and science are key priority sectors for our area and this will give even more young people the opportunity to progress to exciting careers.
“Our T Level students will experience the highest industry standard of teaching facilities, industry expert teaching staff and will benefit extensively from the broad range of employers and business partners who continue to support the College in the development of our T Level programmes.”
The money has come from the T Level Capital Facilities and Improvement Grant funding from the Department for Education which supports Colleges with the development of these innovative and technical qualifications.
Minister for Skills, Apprenticeship and Higher Education Robert Halfon said: “This boost of over £100 million is our latest investment in T Levels. These are robust, high quality technical qualifications providing a unique ladder of opportunity for students to gain both classroom knowledge and on-the-job experience.
“From robotics suites that support digital T Levels to simulated health wards where students can get a real sense of what it means to work in Healthcare Science, T Levels will support young people into rewarding careers and back business with the skills of the future.”
Stoke on Trent College has already received £1.5 million to support the development of a new Construction lab and state of the art IT suite for two construction T Levels due to start this September. A third new T Level will be in nursing and early education.
And Daily Focus reported earlier this year that the College had secured over £13 million in funding for two new state-of-the-art buildings and to transform its campuses. A column by Lisa Capper about how the College is developing partnerships with local businesses, can be read here.
