Thousands of roadside automotive glass technicians around the world now have up to the minute fitting instructions and advice delivered straight to their mobile devices thanks to an app made in Stoke-on-Trent.

Content creation agency i-creation has made the mobile application, which replaces a huge, printed technical handbook, for market leader Autoglass and its global parent company Belron

As part of a worldwide roll out programme to up to 25,000 technicians, the app is already available in the UK, Sweden, Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia. Work is in progress to launch in Spain.

The app for Autoglass and global parent company Belron replaces a printed technical handbook.

Richard Willamett, Belron’s Technical Resources and Development Manager, has led the project from the client side.

He said: “Digitising the resources available to technicians has been a priority. It enables us to maintain up to date instructions and advice in one place, to measure technician activity and to ask the teams out there doing the job around the world for their feedback and even clever tips on doing their jobs more efficiently.

“This is already making a significant difference to the business and teams around the world are excited about joining in and adopting this technology as part of the roll out.”

Andy Jackson, of i-creation, which is based at the Spode site in Stoke, pictured above, said: “Belron has a tremendous vision of incorporating new technologies to make front line technicians’ work more efficiently and effectively.

“The feedback functions we’ve added to the applications we’ve made are gathering fascinating insight from technicians who fit glass components every day, making Belron’s work more sustainable, efficient and further cementing the company’s place as the global leader in automotive glass replacement.

“It’s fascinating to build on our agency’s experience of engaging employees and teams with really relevant content that generates significant results for our clients.

“And because of the success of this project we are already working with Belron’s global IT team on another worldwide project to help technicians do their jobs more effectively, saving time, waste and protecting complex components.”
