Four causes have been announced as the latest ones to benefit from a charitable foundation’s support.
Leek Building Society’s Charitable Foundation has donated more than £7,500 to three Staffordshire Moorlands organisations and another one over the border in Cheshire.
Now other local charities and community groups in need of funding are being encouraged to come forward and make grant applications.
Among those to receive the latest funding is Horton Lodge School, in Rudyard, which has received £3,000.
Lynsey Sherratt, Finance and Administration Assistant at the special school, said: “Thanks to the Charitable Foundation, we’ll be able to create an accessible sensory garden with scope for inclusive activities and sensory immersion opportunities for our pupils.
“Having an accessible sensory garden is a fantastic way to improve our pupil’s development and educational experience, experiences that they may not have access to anywhere else.”
The other latest donations are £3,000 to Leek & District Samaritans to deliver training sessions to future volunteers, £900 to Cheadle-based not-for-profit charity EqualBase to add more accessibility-friendly outdoor furniture to its garden, and £1,000 to help Silklife Foodbank, in Macclesfield, provide food and sanitary items to people in need.
The Foundation has now awarded over £34,000 to local charities and community groups.
Chair of the Foundation, Tim Edwards, said: “There’s so much more we can do to support local charities and community groups, and I encourage anyone looking for funding to support the development of their people-focused initiatives to apply.”
The organisation is particularly encouraging grant applications for causes that help to combat social exclusion and improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable people.
