Business support sought for Together Kitchen project

1 min read

Business are being asked to back an innovative project to feed 1,600 people and help teach many others to cook in a nutritious and sustainable way.

The project called Together Kitchen has been launched by Feasted – renowned for its Chef’s Table and Blue Room events, based at its unique venue at the Spode site in Stoke.

The aim is to have an impactful, circular community project that can help stave off food poverty and benefit those less well off in society.

So far, a crowdfunder for the project has raised well over £3,000. But in order to take it to the next level and help as many people as possible, businesses and other organisations are being asked to lend support.

Rachel Colerick, Feasted’s Head of Education & CIC, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people so far but really do need support from the local business community in taking the next step and running the project at full capacity.

“Feasted believes that every person should have access to tasty, nutritious and sustainable food choices and education.

“But the cost-of-living crisis has seen a 19 per cent increase in food costs, which is further restricting disadvantaged families’ quality of food choices. Many are relying on tinned and process food as well as takeaways.

“We know that a malnourished diet can have a heavy impact on education, employment and health in the long term, so we are committed to doing something about it.

“Food parcels are essential, but we want to take food charity one step further and teach people new skills, which will empower them to transform their lives for the better. We need to give people autonomy.”

Listen to Rachel talk abut the Together Kitchen Project.

The aim is to run four workshops over four months, working with 10 vulnerable members of the community each time.

During each workshop, recipes will be practised and 100 meal kits produced (each kit will be able to feed and educate four other people).

Any extra funds raised above the target amount will be used to scale up the project, providing more workshops, education and meal bags to more people in need
