Businesses are being urged to get involved with a Stoke-on-Trent Community Interest Company (CIC) that supports people with learning disabilities.
Fenton-based Grow and Achieve Together works with corporate partners to help people maximise their independence within work environments.
The aim is to enable them to meet their full potential while developing their employability skills – at no cost to the employer.
Grow and Achieve Together has a wide remit of providing support to young people and adults with different needs – helping them with life, work and travel skills.
The majority of their work centres around job coaching for those who are transitioning from leaving or have left education and are looking to get into the world of work.
Their job coach supports employees by role modelling, mentoring and use of TSI technique along with providing support for employers to understand and capitalise on the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce.
“We support them each workday for the first 12 months, with the intention that they will eventually learn all the skills they need to do the role independently and will be offered a permanent position at the company that has offered them a placement,” said Holly Goodwin, Marketing and Innovation Manager.
“As we’re completely funded we only want more businesses to be open to these supported internships to show what great things people can do – despite any underestimations or stereotypes people may hold.”
The CIC works closely with learning providers, employers, colleges and work placement providers to ensure everyone is matched with a role that suits their strengths and passions.
