Jobs are being created at building services company Ford Mainwaring thanks to a significant partnership to improve a number of Ministry of Defence sites – including RAF bases across the UK.

The North Staffordshire business, which has shown its support for the British military by signing the Armed Forces covenant, is working with main contractor VIVO Defence Services on a series of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning projects.

The projects, which includes work at RAF Valley, on Anglesey, and RAF Shawbury, in Shropshire are creating jobs locally and across the UK.

The firm based on the Centre 500 business Park in the Etruria Valley, Newcastle-under-Lyme, is currently recruiting new apprentices and is looking for experienced engineers, electricians, and an experienced Estimating Manager.

Director Daniel Bailey said: “The engineers and electricians will be working on defence projects and other public sector contracts, providing planned and reactive maintenance work across the Midlands and North West.”

Ford Mainwaring has established a successful partnership with VIVO Defence Services, providing comprehensive building service engineering solutions to the Ministry of Defence, particularly focusing on secure environments.

Tasks typically include plant room refurbishment, boiler installation and maintenance, HVAC projects, electrical power distribution, security systems, and renewable energy solutions, such as the installation of EV charging stations and air source heating.

“Our tailored building service engineering solutions, coupled with our focus on secure environments, ensure that MOD facilities receive the highest standards of quality and security.

“We are committed to providing comprehensive electrical, mechanical, and renewables work, specifically designed to meet the unique needs of military infrastructure.

“Recent projects at RAF Valley, RAF Shawbury and Kendrew Barracks exemplify our dedication to enhancing defence facilities and creating optimal working environments for personnel to work in.”

The work at RAF Shawbury involved the creation of spray-painting and protective coating facilities for helicopters. Ford Mainwaring worked with Spraybake Ltd to construct a unit inside a disused aircraft hangar.
