Brewery stalwarts retire after 60 years of combined service

Titanic Brewery has said farewell to two stalwarts of the company who have retired after 60 years of service.

Phil Salt has left the business after nearly 40 years and holding a variety of roles in that time, most recently that of drayman.

Meanwhile, Bob Crumpton’s retirement puts an end to 20 years of service. He was the manager of the brewery’s first pub, The Bulls Head, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

The brewery, based in Stoke-on-Trent, was founded in 1985 and is run by brothers Keith and Dave Bott.

A spokesman said: “Bob has been a familiar face at The Bulls Head for 20 years, proudly managing this brewery tap and serving the drinkers of Burslem.

“Being just round the corner from Port Vale FC, Bob has welcomed travelling football fans from across the country, ensuring they get the chance to try some of the finest Stoke-brewed beers.

“Phil has been part of the Titanic story since the beginning, and over the course of nearly 40 years has held pretty much every job you can think of, from brewer to drayman. In fact, in 1985 he was Keith’s boss and mentor when Keith was the assistant brewer here at Titanic!”

Their retirements were marked with a function at The Bulls Head, attended by friends and colleagues.
