Tee-rific result for UHNM Charity golf day supported by local businesses

Support from the business community helped to make sure this year’s UHNM Charity golf day was its most successful one yet.

The charity held the fundraiser for the third consecutive year, raising £13,858 to help improve patient care and experience at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

Teams of four took part in a shotgun round of golf at Barlaston Golf Club, followed by food and an evening of entertainment.

It was supported by title sponsors WDPS Stoke and LD Property, and local sportspeople including boxer Nathan ‘Hitman’ Heaney and former Stoke City FC defender Carl Dickinson were in attendance.

The day’s guest of honour was former Wales international footballer Dean Saunders.

Lisa Thomson, Director of Communications and Charity at UHNM, said: “It was so exciting to be back at Barlaston Golf Club for our third and most successful UHNM Charity Golf Day.

“The weather was kind and the atmosphere with our teams was just amazing. So many people have put in so much hard work, and I hope everybody had a special day.

“Every penny raised by those who took part and attended will go towards helping UHNM Charity improve the care and experience of our patients and help us to provide over and above what the NHS normally does.”

Wayne Damant, of WDPS Stoke, said: “We absolutely love fundraising for UHNM Charity and to see the golf day grow and grow has been fantastic, we’re blown away by the support.”

Dean, who went into football coaching after retiring from playing, said: “I’m delighted to attend in benefit of a great cause. Barlaston was a tough course but lovely, with lots of ditches and lots of water.”

Former British middleweight champion Nathan, from Stoke-on-Trent, said: “The work of UHNM and UHNM Charity is amazing. My daughter was recently diagnosed with colitis, so we spent a lot of time up at Royal Stoke, so I’ve seen first-hand the incredible work that they do.”

Carl, now assistant manager at Hartlepool United, added: “It’s always a fantastic day out to support UHNM Charity. UHNM do a lot of work for our local population and any way we can get involved is a good day to be part of.”
