New café for truck park owners who want to engage with community

The owners of a Stoke-on-Trent truck park are expanding their portfolio by opening another café.

Andrew Sargent and Berni Buxton already have a café at ADS Truck Parking, in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, but will open another, more community-focussed one in Meir next week.

Above the Tunnel Café will officially open on Tuesday, 22 October but neighbouring businesses and members of the public have been invited to an open day being held tomorrow, 18 October, where visitors will be able to enjoy taster options from the new café menu.

“We would like to welcome local residents as well as other local businesses to come in and say hello before we fully open,” said Berni.

“We have a juicy menu ready which includes various homemade treats, but we would like others to come and sample some of those which we will be serving, when we open fully on 22 October.

“At our open day some samples will be available free of charge to visitors and it would be great to hear their feedback – who knows someone’s own idea for a special food dish could appear on the menu soon.”

The open day will also welcome donations for the Dougie Mac, which has a charity shop next door to the café.

Andrew said: “It has been great to get to know some of the other businesses nearby as well as charities like the Dougie Mac, and we will be hosting a collection for the charity.

“As we move forward with the cafe, we want to build upon the relationships with our neighbour businesses and charities and support each other as much as we can.”

Donna Adams, Head of Community Fundraising at Dougie Mac, added: “Andrew decided to fundraise for Dougie Mac after popping into our Meir charity shop, which is next door to the café, to buy a few items.

“It’s great that local businesses are supporting each other and building on the fantastic community spirit in the area.

“Dougie Mac relies hugely on the support of the local community to generate the money we need to continue our specialist care and support services for children, young adults and adults facing a life-limiting condition.

“As our new neighbour, we’re delighted to welcome Andrew to the area and we’re looking forward to supporting him with his fundraising.”

Above the Tunnel Café is located off the A50 near to the Meir Tunnel at 751 Uttoxeter Road and will be open to the public six days a week – Tuesday to Sunday.

It promises home-cooked breakfasts, including those with an American-style theme, along with tasty lunches.
