A new brand has been launched with a mission to revive Stoke-on-Trent’s rich pottery heritage.
Sipp of Stoke produces handcrafted fine bone china mugs at the esteemed Duchess China factory in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.
It has been launched by Sam Wilcox, who has family links with the pottery industry and was a reporter at The Sentinel before moving to continue her career in London.
Each of Sipp of Stoke’s mugs are meticulously handcrafted using locally sourced materials, passing through 26 skilled pairs of hands before completion.
Sam said: “Pottery is in my blood.
“Growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, I was surrounded by the pottery industry. My father owned a pot bank, and my grandfather was a pottery wholesaler.
“Although my career took me into journalism and marketing, my passion for pottery has never faded. Sipp of Stoke is my way of honouring that legacy while ensuring the craft continues to thrive for future generations.”
Sam recently moved back to Stoke-on-Trent and found herself facing redundancy, so returned to her roots selling pottery for her family at local markets while setting up her content marketing agency.
It was there she noticed a growing demand for ethically made, UK-produced pottery and founded Sipp of Stoke.
Her collection of handcrafted mugs is inspired by the city’s rich history and landmarks.
Each mug in the range is named and shaped to reflect the unique character of its namesake.
The Duchess China factory where Sipp of Stoke is based supplies iconic retailers such as Fortnum & Mason and Harrods.
