Plans for a business park expected to lead to the creation of hundreds of jobs have been given the go-ahead by councillors.
Indurent has been granted planning permission for an almost 400,000 sq ft development on land to the west of Uttoxeter A50 Bypass.
A reserved matters planning application for the scheme was approved – with conditions – by East Staffordshire Borough Council at a planning committee meeting yesterday afternoon.
It gives the green light for the erection of two industrial units – 296,754 sq ft and 85,994 sq ft respectively.
Daily Focus reported earlier this year that the project is expected to create almost 200 jobs in the construction phase and more than 550 permanent on-site full time equivalent jobs once operational.
A St. Modwen Logistics spokesperson said at the time that the site’s aim was to contribute over £26 million to the local economy.
St. Modwen Logistics was the original applicant but the firm has since joined with Industrials REIT to form Indurent.
Members of the planning committee were recommended to approve the application.
A report ahead of the meeting states: “The submissions in principle aligns with the extant outline planning application, whilst in their details, they are considered to be acceptable in terms of their impacts on the natural and built environment, on residential amenities and terms of highway safety.”
The report also says that the site will provide £965,000 per annum in business rates from the new employment floorspace, of which £386,000 will be retained per annum in East Staffordshire.
It adds that the applicant has advised the marketing strategy for the development will include a series of measures focused on the local market and work is taking place with the council to develop an Employment and Skills Plan setting out measures to provide local employment, skills and business opportunities.
The units are expected to be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
