Manufacturer set to save £400k in energy costs through solar installation

A livestock feed provider is expecting to save £400,000 on energy bills thanks to a fully-funded project with a renewable energy provider.

ForFarmers has partnered with Two Blues Solar in a deal which has seen a 165 kWp solar system installed at its site Parkhouse Industrial Estate site, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, and roof repairs take place.

The project took eight weeks to complete and the site now boasts 388 panels, which will provide close to 100 per cent of the site’s power consumption and help ForFarmers advance its commitment to reducing its carbon emissions by one-third by 2030.

The system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 33 tonnes per year – the equivalent to powering 21 average UK households annually.

Projected savings for the first year are circa £6,500, and £400,000+ over the system’s lifetime.

Operating under a Power Purchase Agreement model, Two Blues Solar funded all project costs, while selling energy to ForFarmers at a fixed, below market rate for the contract’s 25-year lifespan.

Craig Rogers, Regional Operations Manager at ForFarmers, said: “This installation delivers immediate cost benefit while supporting our sustainability goals.

“Two Blues Solar’s efficient project management and swift eight-week installation ensured no disruption to our operations. The long-term PPA locks in fixed energy rates, offering certainty over our energy costs and protection against future market volatility.”

Two Blues Solar specialises in helping companies with high energy demand to reduce costs through solar installations on their unused roof space, land or car parks.

Co-founder Daniel Levene said: “By looking after the financing and handling of both the roof repairs and the solar installation, we minimise overall project costs and disruption, enabling businesses to quickly benefit from lower energy costs and reduced emissions.”
