A six-figure investment has seen a new Indian restaurant open on the outskirts of Leek.

Between 15 and 20 jobs have been created at Goa Indian Restaurant on the site of a former pub on Buxton Road.

The venue serves Asian fusion food and authentic Bangladeshi dishes and is already proving popular since opening earlier this month.

Manager Nahid Raja has overseen an extensive refurbishment of the premises, which were once the Moss Rose pub and most recently a Turkish restaurant.

The site is his second restaurant as he has been running another one in Warrington for the past 20 years.

He said: “The support we have received is amazing, overwhelming in fact. That’s not just from customers since opening, but ever since we started advertising.

“Everyone in Leek has been great and I’m pleased we have had so much positive feedback – I have only seen five-star reviews so far.

“Our customers in Warrington have become our family and I want to build something like that in Leek too.”

The family-owned establishment aims to appeal to couples, families and large groups looking for somewhere to celebrate thanks to a party room which opens out into the beer garden.

The menu features house specialities including Sylheti lamb chops and Balti exotica thawa, signature dishes such as chicken and malai kofta and traditional favourites including chicken madras, vindaloo and jalfrezi.

Refurbishment work saw the whole place stripped back and upgraded, with the project taking just over two months to complete.

Nahid added: “Turkish kitchens are very different to Indian ones so we have installed a new one. Generally, we have done a complete refurbishment. Everything has been stripped back and we have worked closely with interior designers on the new look.

“It is an amazing place now, exactly how I wanted it. Lighting plays a big part in that.

“The restaurant is a comfortable place for people to come on dates, but also where families and groups can visit.

“We are a really friendly bunch and are enjoying meeting people who dine with us or come in for a takeaway.”
