Welfare Week to be organised to promote a healthy workforce

1 min read

In the UK, the benefits of maintaining a healthy workforce are well-documented. A healthy workforce is more productive, takes fewer sick days, and contributes positively to the overall work environment. With this in mind, Culina Logistics embarked on a mission to enhance the wellbeing of their workforce by organising a Welfare Week.

Culina contacted Everyone Health Staffordshire, as they provide free health checks to Staffordshire based companies. The service is funded by Staffordshire County Council as part of their workplace health offer.

Everyone Health provided a total of 114 health checks, offering staff valuable insights and updates on their general wellbeing.

Out of the 114 health checks, 37 of these were the full NHS health checks available to workers aged 40-74.

A full NHS Health Check takes around 20-30 minutes and includes:

  • Personalised advice on how to stay healthy
  • Measuring blood pressure, height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index), waist size, cholesterol, and a test for diabetes.

Out of the staff members who received full health checks, 22 were found to have high cholesterol, 8 had high blood pressure, and 1 was identified as pre-diabetic.

All of these individuals were referred to their GP for further evaluation. Additionally, 14 staff members had high BMIs and were given nutrition and physical activity advice, with 3 taking up a referral to Everyone Health’s weight management course. Among the 6 smokers, 2 took up a referral for Everyone Health’s stop smoking service.

The feedback from staff was incredibly positive.

One member of the team shared their experience, saying, “As I’m getting older, I want to ensure that I am fit and healthy. I had a sense of relief that I’m not as unhealthy as I thought. I would like to thank the team at Culina for allowing me to attend my health check. The feedback was constructive and explained in simple terms how to have a better lifestyle.”

Gareth Tristram-Induction and Engagement, Culina Logistics Stafford said: “From the initial communication about the event, the team at Everyone Health demonstrated exceptional flexibility and willingness to support our initiative. During the event, they were organised, accommodating, and professional throughout. Their collaboration was instrumental in making the week a resounding success, and I cannot commend them enough.

It was a week that not only highlighted the importance of health and wellbeing but also brought our team closer together.”
