Businesses invited to help enhance Newcastle town centre

1 min read

A series of new initiatives have been launched in Newcastle-under-Lyme to help promote a cleaner and safer town.

Newcastle-under-Lyme BID is working with local partners to deliver monthly sessions for businesses and the community.

On the last Tuesday of each month, litter picks will set off from the Guildhall at 12pm with all equipment provided and volunteers invited to enjoy a hot drink at the BID office afterwards.

Monthly meetings are also being held with Newcastle BID, Staffordshire Police and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to discuss crime prevention and town centre safety. They take place in the Women’s Safe Space, based in the Lancaster Building on Ironmarket, on the last Thursday of each month from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

And night time economy businesses can benefit from free essential Spiking Awareness Training designed for all licensed premises in the town.

These sessions will provide knowledge on how to identify, prevent and respond to drink spiking incidents, ensuring a safer night out for all.

Charlie Machin, Projects and Marketing Executive at Newcastle BID, said: “The initiatives are all about bringing people together to make a real difference to our town.

“It’s not just about making Newcastle-under-Lyme look better, it’s about creating a place where people feel safe, welcome and are proud to live, work and visit.

“When we all chip in it builds a stronger sense of pride and helps our local businesses thrive. That’s what we’re aiming for.”

The spiking awareness courses will be held at the Women’s Safe Space and take place on:

  • Wednesday, 9 April from 1pm until 3pm
  • Thursday, 10 April from 4pm until 6pm
  • Friday, 11 April from 5pm until 7pm.
