A Staffordshire college has opened a music studio to give students hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment.

The new facilities at Lichfield College, which is part of South Staffordshire College, were officially opened by the city’s MP, Dave Robertson, at an event attended by special guests, students and industry professionals.

Music performance and production students will have access to state-of-the-art recording studios, rehearsal and live performance spaces and a cutting-edge control room, which features an Audient ASP4816 mixing desk.

Students will also work with industry-standard software such as Pro Tools Ultimate, Avid Dock and S1, Ableton and Logic. Additional equipment includes a Heritage Audio equaliser, an HA609 processor and a range of outbound gear from Warm Audio.

Claire Pinder Smith, Curriculum Manager for Creative Arts, said: “It’s an exciting time for the creative arts department, and we can’t wait to see the incredible work our students will produce in this fantastic new space.

“The new music studio is equipped with advanced recording and production tools, which will give our students hands-on experience with industry-standard resources, and this investment ensures that our students are well-prepared for future careers in the music industry.”

The facilities were demonstrated at the opening event with a performance by JAYLER, a rock band comprising former South Staffordshire College students James Bartholomew, Tyler Arrowsmith, Ed Evans and Ricky Hodgkiss. The group, who were recently signed by Adam Parsons Entertainment, performed and recorded a song live at the event.

Guests also enjoyed an acoustic performance from Tia Lamb and canapés prepared and served by catering and hospitality students from Tamworth College.

Claire Boliver, Chief Executive Principal at South Staffordshire College, said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer our students these exceptional facilities to learn in. The investment reflects the college’s commitment to providing an outstanding learning environment for our students and fostering the next generation of musicians.”
