Chamber runner Justin to take on London Marathon for Staffordshire mental health charity

A runner inspired by Staffordshire Chambers’ monthly run club is set to take on the 2027 London Marathon in support of the Staffordshire Network for Mental Health (SNfMH) charity.

Justin Pover, who works in the Business Engagement team at the University of Staffordshire, will tackle the iconic 26.2-mile race next April, when a record 100,000 runners are expected to take to the streets over two days.

Having started to run more regularly in December 2025, Justin now takes part in parkrun every weekend as he builds towards the biggest challenge of his running journey.

Justin said: “I ran a few half marathons in my 20s – which was about 15 years ago now – but I’ve never completed a full marathon. I’ve also started the monthly Staffordshire Chambers Run Clubs and I’ve found them very enjoyable.

“Mental health challenges affect the workplace in every sector, which is why the work that Staffordshire Network for Mental Health do is so vital.

“I am proud to be running the London Marathon to raise both funds and awareness for this amazing charity, enabling it to continue supporting our community. But like a business, I cannot go the distance without pacing, resilience and a strong support network.”

Justin will be raising funds for SNfMH, a Staffordshire-based charity that has spent more than two decades helping people across the county access practical mental health support and community services.

Stephen Walton, Director at SNfMH, said: “We were delighted by the response when we began our search for a London Marathon 2027 runner, but Justin stood out for all the right reasons.

“His strong connections across Staffordshire, respected standing within the community and genuine passion for improving mental health made him the perfect choice to represent Staffordshire Network for Mental Health.”

He said the charity would be following Justin’s training journey and celebrating key milestones as he prepares for next year’s marathon.

Trustee Paul Hilton said completing the London Marathon was as much a test of mental resilience as physical endurance.

Paul added: “Every one of those 26.2 miles represents commitment, determination and perseverance, qualities that mirror the daily challenges many people face with their mental health.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Justin for taking on this challenge in support of his local community.”

Businesses, community organisations and individuals are being encouraged to support Justin’s campaign through sponsorship, fundraising or by helping spread the word. Donations can be made, here.
