Four top chefs confirmed for charity night dubbed ‘every foodie’s dream’

Multi award-winning chefs including the man described as the godfather of the county’s food and drink scene and the person behind Staffordshire’s only Michelin-starred restaurant have signed up to cook at a charity fundraiser.

Matt Davies, who suffered a life-changing injury that ended his career, is bringing together Michelin-starred chef Tom Shepherd, of Lichfield’s Upstairs by Tom Shepherd, and other big names in the industry for a night in aid of organisations which have supported him through numerous operations and his recovery.

Matt, who is originally from Staffordshire, is the Vice-President of the British Culinary Federation and has spent 40 years in the industry, having led an 80-strong brigade across six Michelin-listed and multi-AA Rosette restaurants in the Midlands.

He suffered a severe electric shock in 2017 which caused extensive damage to his left arm and required 70 operations over a seven-year period. Chronic pain and recurrent infections led to the amputation of Matt’s left arm in April last year.

The event at the Riverbank Restaurant at Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) Stafford College on 3 June will raise money for the plastic surgery department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, hospital accommodation Fisher House and the charity Hospitality Action.

Also lined up for the night are Ed Warren of Great Wyrley-based Warrens Restaurant & Bar and Sam Large, Head Chef at supermodel Jodie Kidd’s pub, The Half Moon in Kirdford, West Sussex.

The menu is yet to be revealed but they will be creating a four-course meal and a group of current NSCG Stafford College students will be picked to assist in the preparation and service throughout the evening.

A limited number of tickets are available.
