A group of Staffordshire business leaders and local figures have completed a gruelling fundraising challenge in aid of Dougie Mac.
The team – former Stoke-on-Trent City Council Leader Abi Brown, KMF‘s Gareth Higgins, Sabit’s Rob Hope, Gary Mellor of Beswicks Sports, Shepherd PR‘s Jane Shepherd, Martin Tideswell from University of Staffordshire and Adam Yates from The Hubb Foundation – finished a 92-mile hike covering the entire Staffordshire Way yesterday.
They set out from Mow Cop on Thursday and covered pathways alongside the Caldon Canal, then through the Churnet Valley passing through Leek, Uttoxeter and Cannock Chase before ending up at Kinver Edge in the south of the county.
Money raised from their efforts in the searing heat will go to the Stoke-on-Trent-based charity which supports more than 3,500 local people with life-limiting conditions and their families each year.
A £10,000 target was set, but donations have already taken the total above the £11,000 mark.
Martin, Director of Commercial Strategy at the university, said: “It was extreme. Brutal. I am proud to call these people my friends. Thanks so much to all our sponsors. We have been so pleased to be able to shine a light on the world class care offered by Dougie Mac. We are so lucky to have this hospice on our doorstep and would like to dedicate this walk to the staff who are incredible.”
