Two stars from the hit show Strictly Come Dancing have shown their support for a huge charity fundraiser, taking up the role of head judges.
Professional dancers Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova – who have won a record-breaking six Strictly trophies between them – will be appearing in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday, 3 October when they judge contestants in Strictly Knot Dancing.
Twelve business leaders are currently in training for the event which is being held at the Kings Hall and hopes to raise £100,000 for the Dougie Mac.
Darren and Lilia – both former British dance champions – are the only married couple to have both lifted the famous glitterball trophy and they became household names when they won the BBC dance contest in consecutive years.
They said: “Dance has given us so much throughout our lives, from competing on the world stage to the joy of performing on Strictly.
“Being part of events like this is always special – it brings people together, raises vital funds for charity, and most importantly spreads the joy of dance. We can’t wait to see the contestants take to the floor and share in the energy of the night.”
They will head up a judging panel which also includes boxing star Nathan Heaney, world-class ballroom and Latin dancer Oliver Hand from Stone’s The Sanctuary Dance Studio and Dougie Mac CEO David Webster.
Contestants will be paired with professional dancers and perform in front of a live audience of more than 800 people.
David said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in Strictly Knot Dancing. The funds raised will make a real difference to the patients and families we care for every single day.
“With our services now supporting people of all ages across North Staffordshire, the generosity of the community is more important than ever.
“I’m also personally looking forward to taking my place on the judging panel – it promises to be an inspiring and entertaining evening.”
Tables for the evening have already sold out, but a limited number of spectator balcony tickets will be released soon.
The event has been organised by Knot Events.
The contestants are: Karen Staley of Geens Accountants, Jane Shepherd of Shepherd PR, Kate Beardmore of Port Vale, Sarah Mellor of Beswicks Solicitors, Hannah Ault of Valentine Clays, Andrea Heath of DJH, Nadine Baggeley of Greenhouse People, Gareth Higgins of KMF, Pete Davenport of SG Fleet, Nathan Walton of Insurance Connections and Matt Fletcher of Fletcher Moorland, and Mark Thorndike of Pastel Group.
