We Are Staffordshire seeks business input on place marketing future

1 min read

Businesses are being encouraged to help shape the future of the county’s place marketing initiative by taking part in a new survey.

Since its launch in 2021, We Are Staffordshire has become a nationally recognised model for place promotion, engaging businesses, cultural institutions, and local authorities to raise the county’s profile.

A review has been launched to assess the programme’s impact, governance, and funding model, and deliver a refreshed strategy to guide its growth from 2026 to 2030.

People can contribute their insights and ideas by accessing the survey here and giving their opinions before 5pm on 26 September.

Martin Murray, Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economic growth, said: “We Are Staffordshire has made good traction with stakeholders and the business community across the county but we want it to have greater reach and impact, including our profile in the media.

“This review is a timely opportunity to ensure the brand continues to deliver impact and aligns with our wider ambitions for economic growth as we position Staffordshire as the beating heart of the country.”

The review has been commissioned by the county council and is being led by international place branding consultancy Instid.

It will explore how We Are Staffordshire can continue to support economic growth, attract investment, and enhance civic pride, while responding to external challenges such as local government reorganisation and devolution.

Hannah Ault, Chair of the We Are Staffordshire Place Board, said: “Staffordshire truly is a place to celebrate. This review allows us to reflect on our achievements and set a bold new direction for the future. We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve built and the energy behind our brand.”

Significant We Are Staffordshire achievements so far include a diversified funding model, the launch of Staffordshire’s first Film Office, Screen Staffordshire and hosting the prestigious City Nation Place UK conference in Lichfield in 2024.
