An industry veteran has launched a new business specialising in steel fire and safety doors after investing £1.4 million in machinery and equipment.

Founded by David Lycett, who was managing director of Newcastle-based steel door manufacturer Robust UK for more than 25 years, Securexit Ltd manufactures bespoke steel fire and safety external doors for retail, industrial, education and healthcare sectors across the UK and Ireland.

The Stoke-on-Trent start-up, which was supported by a six-figure equity investment and additional loan finance from business investment specialist UKSE, has invested £1.4 million in machinery and equipment to set up full production on site.

Securexit took over a 20,000 sq ft unit on Newstead Industrial Estate in September and began production in early November. The company currently employs eight people, with plans to grow to 12 by the end of the year and 25 by the end of 2026.

A new apprenticeship programme is also planned for 2026 to give local young people the chance to gain skills and employment in the sector.

Managing director David Lycett said: “UKSE’s investment has been instrumental in getting Securexit off the ground. The six-figure equity deal enabled us to cover all our start-up costs, invest in machinery and secure the capacity we need to grow.”

Steve Grice, UKSE West Midlands area manager, added: “David’s track record and expertise in the industry, combined with his clear vision for the business, made this an ideal investment opportunity for UKSE.

“Securexit has ambitious but achievable growth plans, and we’re proud to be supporting a business that will create significant employment opportunities in the local area.”
