Brothers compete for same award as apprentices honoured

An electrical training provider’s awards ceremony turned into a battle between brothers when two siblings went up against each other for the same accolade.

Two hundred guests gathered at Rebus Training’s annual awards ceremony at Port Vale Football Club to celebrate the progress, success and achievements of its learners over the past 12 months.

Out of a cohort of 200 electrical apprentices, brothers Bradley Collett and Joel Collett were both nominated and shortlisted for the 4th Year Apprentice Award. Kier apprentice Joel won that category but Midlands Power Networks apprentice Bradley picked up the Employer Nominated Apprentice Award and went on to become Apprentice of the Year.

Anne Edge, Rebus Training’s Business Development and Marketing Co-ordinator, said: “We were delighted to be joined by partner employers, and friends and family of our nominees at our awards night.

“The evening is a great way to come together and celebrate the progress, success and achievements of Rebus learners over the past 12 months.

“It was a particularly interesting twist when Bradley and Joel went up against each other for the same award. They are both outstanding electrical apprentices, and impressively, from the entire year group, they were shortlisted as winner and runner-up.

“Congratulations to them and the other winners. We are very proud of our learners.”

The 2nd year apprentice award proved to be one of the trickiest ones to decide in the history of the scheme with judges and tutors unable to pick a winner so both Thomas Deaville and Luke Roberts took the top spot.

Other winners were: Harry Mullen (1st Year), Eden Bailey (3rd Year), Rhys Cooper (Fast Track Apprenticeship), Adam Conway (Evening Course), Harvey Game (Outstanding Dedication to Apprenticeship Award), H&B Electrical Services (Outstanding Employer Contribution Award) and Highpride Developments (Employer of the Year).

The night also featured a fundraising raffle, and raised £1,041 for The Hubb Foundation.

Rebus Training, in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, is currently training in excess of 200 electrical apprentices and evening learners.
