A new pilot programme has been launched to help businesses across Staffordshire transform underused outdoor areas into greener, more attractive spaces.
The Improving Green Spaces for Business pilot programme, funded by Staffordshire County Council, will provide 15 small and medium-sized enterprises with grants of up to £1,000 to support projects that enhance biodiversity and improve staff wellbeing.
Businesses selected for the scheme will also receive expert advice to help design and deliver site-specific improvements, from planting schemes to wildlife-friendly features, such as hedgehog houses, and upgraded outdoor areas for staff and visitors.
The funding must be match-funded by participating businesses, with a minimum contribution of 50 per cent.
The initiative is aimed at helping firms make better use of their outdoor spaces while delivering environmental and wellbeing benefits, with organisers saying even small changes can have a significant impact.
The programme is open to eligible SMEs across Staffordshire, although businesses based in Stoke-on-Trent are not eligible for this funding.
A spokesperson said: “Whether it’s adding planting, creating spaces for wildlife, or improving areas for staff and visitors, this programme is about making small spaces deliver big benefits.”
Three 30-minute introductory sessions are being held online this week for interested businesses, who can register interest here.
