Road scheme for new commercial development set to begin

1 min read

A major road scheme for a new commercial development in Stafford will get underway next month, with commuters and other motorists being warned about disruption.

Staffordshire County Council has confirmed that junction and road widening at a site adjacent to J14 of the M6 is due to start in the week commencing 4 May, lasting for approximately 39 weeks.

The scheme, fully funded by developer Strawsons Property, is part of the wider Stafford Gate commercial project on the A5013 Creswell Grove, A5013 Eccleshall Road and the motorway junction.

Plans for the development proposed a petrol filing station, convenience store and coffee shop with remaining opportunities for the development of a hotel, pub/restaurant, offices, day nursery and light industrial/trade counter uses.

Temporary traffic management will be used throughout the project. A one-way order will be introduced on Monday, 11 May towards Eccleshall and will be in operation during most of the scheme.

There will also be other phased traffic management. The council said warning signs will be installed ahead of any changes to traffic arrangements, and signed diversion routes in place.

Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways at the county council, said: “This is a significant development which will create jobs and provide local facilities which we welcome, but the road scheme providing access is a lengthy one which will impact our network.

“Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, though for work to be carried out safely and as quickly as possible, a one-way order is needed on Creswell Grove.

“Clear signage and diversion routes will be in place throughout and we’ll keep our communities updated on progress throughout the scheme.

“We’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding while work is carried out.”

  • Hotel and leisure club chain David Lloyd has recently applied to Stafford Borough Council for permission to build a new club on the site with features including tennis and padel courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa garden and business hub.
