1 min read

A new app giving residents and visitors a digital guide to East Staffordshire’s growing network of trails has been launched as part of Great Big Green Week celebrations.

The app gives users access to a range of trails across the borough, from riverside walks and woodland routes to heritage pathways through Burton upon Trent and beyond.

Highlights include the route through the ruins of Croxden Abbey near Rocester, the National Forest Noon Columns, and Burton’s newly regenerated town centre trails. Further trails will be added regularly.

Great Big Green Week, a mass moment for nature and climate, runs from tomorrow (6 June) until 14 June.

Events and activities taking place in East Staffordshire are being run in partnership with local charity Circularity.org.

They include:

  • 6 June – Vegan Streetfest and Green Day in Burton’s Market Hall and Place, featuring local traders and sustainable finds.
  • 6 to 12 June – Through the lens of Uttoxeter, a Uttoxeter Photography Display in The Maltings showcasing winning images from a competition run by Circularity.org and Live & Local, celebrating the landscape, people and spirit of the town.
  • 7 June – A drop-in session offering nature-based activities at the Brewhouse Community Garden.
  • 11 June – Screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing at the Brewhouse Arts Centre. The film brings together leading UK scientists and experts on climate and nature, featuring Chris Packham and Deborah Meaden.
  • 11 June – Dried flower artwork workshop at the Circularity Pop Up in the Octagon Centre.
  • 13 June – Baby & Children’s Market and Children’s Day at Burton Market Hall and Place, including family-friendly fun and bike stunts.
  • 14 June – Winshill Allotment Open Day.
  • Ongoing – The Branston Pickle Pot Trail, a walking trail designed by local artists.

Councillor Paul Walker, cabinet member for tourism and cultural development at East Staffordshire Borough Council, said: “East Staffordshire is a borough full of green spaces, hidden paths, fascinating heritage and incredible countryside, and Great Big Green Week is the perfect moment to remind people that it is all right on their doorstep.

“The new app makes it easier than ever to get outside, explore at your own pace, and connect with everything our borough has to offer. Whether you are a seasoned walker or just looking for somewhere new to take the family, there is genuinely something for everyone.”
