Waterstones is to open a store at the Trentham Estate before the end of the year.
The book retailer is joining the line-up at the popular attraction’s shopping village, with recruitment for staff understood to be underway.
A Trentham spokesperson said Waterstones would move into a unit being vacated by another retailer.
The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Waterstones will be joining the retail line-up at Trentham Shopping Village, with the store expected to open before the end of the year.
“As with any shopping village, changes in tenants are part of the natural evolution of the retail mix. Our role as a management team is to work with both independent and national brands to ensure we continue to offer an exciting and complementary array of stores for visitors, and we’re delighted to be welcoming Waterstones to Trentham.
“We are delighted that Trentham Shopping Village remains very close to full occupancy and, in this instance, we have been able to ensure that a new retailer has been brought in very quickly to replace a vacating one. This swift action in turn ensures continuity of employment opportunities and protects our contribution to the local economy.”
The arrival of Waterstones comes shortly after Go Outdoors closed its Trentham store.
The new store will be added to a mix of national and independent traders at Trentham, including Joules, Mountain Warehouse, Portmeirion, The Works, Cotton Traders, Great British Jigsaws and White Ribbon Boutique.
Trentham is also home to independent mobile bookshop What The Book, which founder Allie Taylor launched from a horsebox trailer almost 12 months ago.
She told Daily Focus her business will remain at its pitch next to Cadwaladers, despite the arrival of Waterstones.
She said: “I have had such a lot of messages from customers, traders and the local book community telling me why independent bookshops matter to them. I’m not planning on going anywhere.
“I offer a really personal experience supporting the reading community and local authors and still have a lot to give.”
- Daily Focus recently reported that Waterstones has secured a new 300,000 sq ft distribution centre at Indurent Park Burton. Read that story here.
