New artisan market promises festive boost for Cheadle town centre

A brand-new artisan market is set to make its debut in Cheadle this Christmas – with organisers hoping it will become a regular fixture for the Staffordshire town from next spring.

Award-winning market operator Independent Street has announced plans to launch the inaugural Cheadle Christmas Artisan Market on Saturday, 12 December between 10am and 4pm, transforming Tape Street Car Park into a festive shopping destination packed with independent traders, makers and community entertainment.

The one-off Christmas event will feature a wide range of artisan businesses, offering everything from handmade gifts, jewellery and homewares to festive treats, baked goods and unique creations.

If the launch proves successful, organisers hope to build on the momentum by introducing a monthly artisan market in Cheadle from spring 2027.

Independent Street, which runs successful artisan markets across the North West, believes the event can help drive footfall into the town centre while showcasing the wealth of independent businesses operating across the region.

Lisa Cowley, Director of Independent Street, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be launching in Cheadle this Christmas.

“We’ve had such a lovely response already from independent businesses wanting to join us, and we are really excited about bringing something special to the town.

“Our markets are about so much more than shopping. They’re about bringing communities together, supporting local businesses, creating a fantastic atmosphere and giving people a reason to come into town, explore and enjoy everything their high street has to offer.”

Early interest in the event has already been strong, with several trader categories, including hot food, bars, crystals, pies and 3D-printed products, fully booked.

Organisers are now appealing for more local artisans, makers and independent businesses to get involved, particularly those offering handmade, creative or festive products.

As well as attracting traders, Independent Street is keen to make the market a true community event and is inviting schools, entertainers and community groups to take part in the celebrations.

The company would particularly like to hear from school choirs, brass bands, face painters, children’s activity providers and festive entertainment companies who can help create a family-friendly atmosphere throughout the day.

Local councillor Gary Bentley welcomed the launch and said the market would provide a welcome boost for the town centre.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see new events coming into our town, bringing fresh opportunities for local businesses and giving residents and visitors another reason to come and enjoy everything Cheadle has to offer.

“I hope everyone will come along, support our fantastic independent businesses and help make the very first Cheadle Christmas Artisan Market a huge success.”

Further announcements, including the full trader line-up and entertainment programme, are expected in the coming weeks.
