Business leaders in Staffordshire are being invited to take part in an exciting new initiative which enables students to “see into” the future of their world of work.
The Careers Observatory Project allows employers to engage with their talent pipeline by putting on short taster sessions so that youngsters can experience their potential workplace.
The “Careers Observatory” is a unique directory of experiences on offer from employers being compiled by Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub.
Under the scheme students take half-day placements to meet a range of employees, find out about the different careers and pathways available within the company and get to know about the necessary skills.
In this way the pupils – from more than 20 schools involved across the county – can observe and experience opportunities in the workplace to help them see their future.
Businesses signing up to the current phase of the new-style work experience are being asked to offer half-day placements/experiences to small groups of pupils aged 13-15 between February and July.
To inspire the students to consider a career in their sector, they could offer workplace tours or question and answer sessions.
They could also organise short activities which support students to develop and apply skills necessary to succeed in their workforce.
Helen Brown, who is leading the Careers Hub initiative, said: “The Careers Observatory Project gives students valuable knowledge of different sectors and skill competencies helping to refine their future career pathways, making informed decisions and preparing them to transition into the workplace more effectively.
“The Project also seeks to support businesses to connect with their talent pipeline while increasing opportunities for business and sector branding with their future workforce.”
Employers and schools are encouraged to create sustainable long-term relationships as a result of the links made through involvement with the Careers Observatory.
