A specialist development centre supporting children with special educational needs has won a Your Heroes award.
The Peter Pan Centre, established in Newcastle-under-Lyme 1969 by a local mum as a playgroup for local children, received an “Inspiration in Education” accolade.
The centre was recognised at the Your Heroes 2022 awards sponsored by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire University and the Community Foundation for Staffordshire.
The charity supports children with special educational needs and disabilities, together with their families, from the moment they are born until they start school.
Through weekly bespoke education, care and development sessions at their specialist development centre they support children to grow and develop, from building confidence to socialising and gaining communication skills.
“We can only make this difference for our children thanks to our local community because we are almost entirely reliant on fundraising to keep our doors open,” said Catherine Cook, Chief Executive.
“As a small charity we are hugely grateful to Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce for helping us to raise our profile, because without our local businesses we could not have helped the many thousands of disabled children we have supported throughout their earliest years, for over five decades.”
