Another round of redundancies has been announced at a university – with 245 employees ‘at risk’ and 40 jobs expected to go.
University of Staffordshire, previously known as Staffordshire University, has said it is making the cuts as it continues to navigate the “broader challenges facing the Higher Education sector”.
The affected staff are from professional services which includes administrative, technical, and operational roles.
A total of 245.35 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees are ‘at risk’ of redundancy. However, there are circa 200 FTE roles available, so the anticipated reduction in the 1,679-strong workforce is expected to be 40 FTE.
The news comes almost a year after a consultation was launched to cut around 100 jobs at the university.
A spokesperson for the University of Staffordshire has stressed the reshaping of professional services is separate to last month’s rebranding.
The spokesperson added: “Like other institutions, University of Staffordshire is navigating the broader challenges facing the Higher Education sector, including a volatile student recruitment market and rising costs. In response, we have commenced a consultation on reshaping our professional services to align with future priorities and deliver an exceptional student experience.
“The vast majority of roles will remain unchanged. A significant portion are expected to be transferred onto a new structure with a number of new posts being created to meet our future priorities.
“At this stage we anticipate a reduction in workforce of circa 40 FTE out of a total staff of 1,679 people.”
The consultation period closes on 14 November.
