Free festive family fun as town prepares to Light Up Castle

1 min read

A free day of festive family fun will lead to the switching on of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Christmas lights this weekend.

Organised by Newcastle-under-Lyme BID, the Light Up Castle event will take place on Sunday, 24 November, from 12pm to 7pm.

6 Towns Radio’s Dan Townley will bring the festive spirit on the main stage outside The Guildhall for an afternoon and evening packed with live entertainment, followed by the big switch on at 6.30pm.

The young Your Heroes Awards winners will have the honour of lighting up the town’s Christmas lights followed by a laser display and live music.

The High Street and Ironmarket will feature holiday performances from local artists, schools, and community groups as well as a headline performance from the Big Boyband Reunion.

Castle Artisan Market will be hosting a festive edition of their popular market on the Ironmarket, with stalls from local makers, bakers and creators.

There will also be small fairground rides from Stanworths and free Christmas crafts, as well as meet and greet opportunities with Santa and Disney princesses.

Free parking will be available on all Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council car parks.

Charlie Machin, projects and marketing executive at Newcastle BID, said: “As part of the BID’s annual calendar of events, we can’t wait to Light Up Castle for another year and host the community in the town centre to kick start the Christmas season.

“The light switch on is always such an incredible day out and a great opportunity to start Christmas shopping or start the festive celebrations with family and friends.”

Newcastle BID is also staging the Castle Winter Food and Drink Fest on Saturday, December 14.
