A new play to commemorates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to be staged in North Staffordshire next week.
New Vic Borderlines will present Voices From – a powerful creative exploration of conflict and peace through the eyes of children caught in some of history’s darkest moments – on Monday, 27 January.
Created in collaboration with the Keele Institute for Social Inclusion, Professor Bulent Gokay and Dr Lily Hamourtziadou – researchers of the NGO Iraq Body Count, which has been twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize – Voices From takes audiences on a journey through authentic stories of reflection and responsibility and features poems, letters, and diary entries from children experiencing various conflicts, including the Holocaust, the Srebrenica Genocide and ongoing global conflicts.
Audiences are invited to participate in a pre-show workshop delivered by displaced Ukrainian artist Yulia Holovatiuk-Ungureanu and contribute to her art installation Lost Dreams, which will feature as part of the backdrop to the performance.
Susan Moffat, Director of New Vic Borderlines, said: “In a world full of conflict and hate, this piece reflects the experiences of children through historic conflicts up to the present day and their hopes for a better future.”
Voices From will be staged at the New Vic on Monday, January 27, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available now, starting at £15. For more information or to book tickets, call the box office on 01782 717962 or click here.
