Organisers of Staffordshire’s largest business team building event hope to attract over 400 members of the local business community this year.

Knot A Sports Day is a throwback to the classic school sports day where local firms compete against others from across the county.

It is organised by a group of Staffordshire-based businesswomen with the aim of raising £10,000 to split between 10 good causes.

Twenty teams have so far signed up to this year’s event, which will return to University of Staffordshire’s Leek Road campus in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday, 12 June.

Teams of four to eight people will compete in nostalgic favourites such as egg-and-spoon races plus modern twists including inflatable challenges and – new for 2026 – a World Cup penalty shootout challenge.

Fiona Hawkins, managing director at digital marketing agency Plinkfizz and co-organiser of the event said: “We’ve had an incredible response to Knot A Sports Day so far, with over 20 teams signed up. Our aim is to get over 400 members of the Staffordshire business community involved and raising money for these worthwhile charities.

“As this year’s event coincides with the World Cup, we’ve also added a special penalty shootout challenge, along with other fun themed games. The atmosphere on the day is incredible, with everyone embracing the day and having a lot of fun both with their teammates and other charities.”

Charities set to benefit from the event are: Stoke City FoundationPort Vale FC FoundationThe Hubb FoundationGingerbread Family SupportAED DonateHorizon FundBrakeNorth Staffs Link LineThe Alice Charity and Symmetrical North Staffs.

Entry costs £450, with each business team member who signs up receiving personalised commemorative t-shirts.
