Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival returns with 70+ events

1 min read

The Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival returns next month with around 70 free or low-cost events and guided walks ranging from leisurely to strenuous.

Specialist walk leaders will lead the events, which will cater for a variety of interests showcasing local scenery, wildlife and explain local history.

The festival runs from Friday, 24 April until Monday, 4 May, with selected Moorlands businesses offering discounts such as 10 per cent off food.

Last year’s festival attracted over 1,500 participants and featured over 80 walks and events. Almost 40 organisations were involved and the festival website had 51,263 visitors.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, cabinet member for tourism and leisure at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: “It’s the fifth year we’re hosting this festival in the Moorlands and I can’t think of a better place to get outside and enjoy the open air, our stunning countryside and heritage, and a good walk.

“We all know being more active and spending time outdoors boosts our mood and is good for our physical health and mental wellbeing – and with walks to suit all ages and abilities there really is something for everyone to take part in.

“And, at the end of the walks, the Moorlands offers a fantastic variety of hospitality and accommodation options, and plenty of independent shops, award-winning markets, and many other cultural and visitor attractions so there’s every reason to come and join us this spring. We can promise a warm welcome whatever the weather!”

Details of the walks and events can be found here, with more set to be added.
