Luxury hotel The Tawny has invested more than £3.5 million into expanding its family offering by converting five historic farm buildings into bespoke self-catering cottages.
The new collection, known as The Owlets, have been created from former barns and storage buildings on the Basford Hall Farm estate in Consall, in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The cottages, which aim to provide a mix of historic charm and modern luxury, range from one to four bedrooms and can accommodate between two and eight guests.
The investment comes in response to growing demand for group-friendly accommodation, combining hotel facilities with greater privacy.
Restoration work included adding new kitchens, bathrooms, electrics and heating as well as room repairs, and new doors and windows. The oldest building, formerly the farmhouse, dates back to the 17th Century.

A spokesperson said: “We’re incredibly proud to unveil The Owlets at The Tawny – a collection that perfectly captures our vision of relaxed luxury for families.
“These beautifully restored cottages honour the heritage of the Basford Estate while introducing a playful, nature-led experience designed for all generations.
“From butterfly-inspired details to hands-on activities and shared outdoor spaces, every element has been thoughtfully considered to encourage connection – with each other and with the landscape around us.”
The Tawny, a deconstructed hotel set across two estates in the Churnet Valley, focuses on bringing nature and luxury together with top hospitality.
Each of The Owlets cottages are named after a British butterfly and have been designed by Louise Platt Interiors with a focus on natural materials, colours and finishes.
The cottages all have a private garden with BBQ, alfresco dining area, and The Tawny’s signature outdoor William Holland Jacuzzi spa bath. Guests can also enjoy The Tawny’s year-round heated swimming pool and fine at The Plumicorn restaurant, which was recently awarded three AA Rosettes.
For those with children, there are ‘Little Gardener Kits’ with fact sheets, crafts and wildflower seeds, movie night hampers and the chance to experience in-cottage pottery throwing workshops with Wedgwood.
Stays start from £350 a night for a one-bedroom cottage, with a minimum two-night booking.
