The Tamworth Tap has been named among the UK’s 16 best pubs as it bids to secure a record fourth national title.
The Market Street venue has been crowned the West Midlands winner in the Campaign for Real Ale’s 2026 Pub of the Year competition, earning it a place in the next round of judging. CAMRA will announce four national finalists in October, before revealing the overall winner in January 2027.
The latest recognition further strengthens the Tamworth Tap’s status as one of Staffordshire’s leading hospitality businesses and a visitor attraction for the town.
Owned by George and Louise Greenaway, the pub became the first to win CAMRA’s national title three times when it claimed the 2025 award. It previously took the top prize in 2022 and 2023.
The pub occupies a Tudor building overlooking Tamworth’s Norman castle and has a historic courtyard beer terrace. It is also home to Tamworth Brewing Company.
Its drinks range includes eight handpulls serving cask beers from local producers and breweries across the UK, alongside ciders, gins, wines and bottled beers.
The venue has also developed a strong community role, hosting activities ranging from craft clubs and painting evenings to tasting sessions, while supporting local charities.
Andrea Briers, CAMRA’s Pub of the Year competition co-ordinator, said: “We have a formidable top 16 this year, with both familiar faces and some first-time winners in the mix.
“Behind each one is a deserving and hard-working team, running an amazing pub for their local community, and serving brilliant cask beer.”
The 16 regional winners will now be assessed during the competition’s “super-regional” stage. Pubs are judged on factors including atmosphere, décor, welcome, service, value, customer mix and beer quality.
