Local business leaders were among a team of volunteer runners raising money for a North Staffordshire Beds for Kids campaign.
A seven-strong squad to enter the Alton Towers 10k race was organised by Emmaus North Staffs, the charity which helps local people overcome furniture poverty.
The initiative was part of its £5,000 fund-raising drive to provide new bed kits which include a mattress, bedding and a bed.
The runners in the Emmaus North Staffs team included Helen Bancroft-Morris, Director of Stafford-based HBM Telemarketing, Matthew Tolley, Director of Hayo Energy and Sonya Farrall of PR & Media firm BabaBaboon.
Completing the challenging course at the Alton Towers Resort on November 11, the plucky volunteers notched up £4,000 towards the campaign target.
John Webbe, Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, who took part, said: “Everyone did very well on the day.
“It was not the easiest of courses, but everyone dug deep and supported each other all the way round. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support and we are absolutely over the moon to have already raised more than £4,000.
“The target we set was to raise £5,000 between us – which would help us to provide around 30 brand new beds. We are not quite there yet, but donations have been continuing to come in after the race.”
Beds for Kids was launched in 2022 following increasing demand from local families who could not afford basic furniture for their homes.
Emmaus North Staffs supports than 800 local households each year, partnering with housing associations.
The charity, which has a large store in the Potteries Centre, Hanley, is also raising funds to create an Emmaus community in Stoke-on-Trent for people facing homelessness.
