Stoke-based Horizons Coaching are offering companies employing veterans and service leavers free sessions throughout November to support with PTSD, trauma and mental health issues.
Business owner Helen Dos Santos has launched the initiative to help support those who may be grappling with the mental and emotional scars of their experiences.
Helen said: “Remembrance Day is a solemn occasion, dedicated to remembering and honouring those who paid the highest price in the service of their nation.
“And whilst we pay respect to those fallen personnel, it is equally important to extend support to the living heroes who carry the scars of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and mental health issues resulting from their tours of duty.
“The mental health struggles faced by veterans, active-duty service members, and those transitioning into civilian life are a matter of great concern. Many individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving our country return with experiences that can haunt them long after their service ends. The invisible wounds of war and conflict can be as devastating as physical injuries, and these individuals deserve our attention and support.”
The initiative is being delivered in line with the businesses’ Armed Forces Covenant pledge.
John Stephenson from The Forces Transition Group, who have worked with Horizons Coaching, said: “Working with Helen creates a warmth and understanding not usually associated within the macho and military arena the Forces Transition Group works within.
“The careful interaction with those leaving the Armed Forces takes skill, real consideration and above all absolute dedication to understanding individuals and what they may have gone through or may be living in the moment. Helen does this with great expertise and I would recommend Helen as a special person, hugely talented in her field but with a genuine warmth that draws you in.”
Helen added: “I recognise the immense sacrifice that men and women make when joining our armed forces. They are virtually writing an open cheque on their lives to protect the lives of others. Supporting the leavers of our tri-services is fundamental to me and it is our duty as a society to provide them with the support they need.”
“This offer of free mental health support throughout November reflects our commitment to this cause. We want to remove the barriers to healing and ensure that every veteran and service leaver gets the help they deserve.”
If you employ service leavers, you can get in touch with Helen for more information about the support available from Horizons Coaching by emailing: [email protected] or calling 07730 920010.
