A Staffordshire Moorlands company which started out making wooden caskets and now specialises in designing and manufacturing handcrafted timber windows, doors and staircases is forecast to turnover £1 million for the first time.
Family run business Brookeswood Joinery, based in Leek, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, operates across the Midlands, Cheshire and Derbyshire.
Originally based in Cheddleton, the company which is run by a father, mother and son team has expanded over the years and now employs a growing workforce of 20, which has increased from 12 in 2020.
The firm has also recently recruited another apprentice with plans to recruit further staff in the future.
Its handcrafted products are all designed and manufactured by a team of skilled joiners on site at their manufacturing headquarters at Fould Farm. Over the last 12 months they’ve completed more than 75 bespoke projects with plans to increase that over the coming year.
24-year-old Bradley Brookes is the Sales and Projects Director and joined his mum and dad’s company as a Business Administration Apprentice. Since then, he has risen up the ranks and has transformed the way the business operates on all levels, from sales and purchasing to production and processes.
His hard work and determination have already seen him win one award. In 2021, he was named the British Woodwork Federation’s Rising Star, aged just 22.
Bradley said: “Brookeswood’s success and longevity is down to the hard work of the talented team we have here and the sheer quality of our handcrafted products.
“We have seen the number of projects we’ve completed over the last twelve months grow and we have plans to continue that growth. Our team is expanding and we recently took on a fantastic new apprentice who is a credit to the team and real star of the future.”
He added: “The feedback we get from our customers is brilliant and makes everything we do at Brookeswood worthwhile. We’re looking forward to building for the future, increasing our brand exposure and taking the company to the next level.”
Bradley’s Mum, Sue Brookes, a fellow Director of the business, said: “We’ve come a long way since those first days when my husband Neil was designing and producing bespoke caskets. Now we are creating our handcrafted products across the Midlands with a fantastic, skilled, hardworking team.
“Brookeswood really is going from strength to strength and we are looking forward to what the future holds.”
