The former leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been appointed to the board of Homes England.
Abi Brown OBE is one of five new non-executive directors brought into the Government’s housing and regeneration agency to expand experience and expertise.
Abi, who was council leader between 2019 and 2023 and is a Conservative councillor for the Meir Park Ward, says she will use her role to further promote the city and surrounding North Staffordshire area on a national stage.
She said: “Bringing new homes to our communities, particularly in places like Stoke-on-Trent, rests on working with agencies like Homes England – and they have played a big part in some really significant developments in the city over the years.
“This national role will give me the opportunity to use the experience I gained from working with developers and landowners in bringing forward a number of these important developments.
“And, of course, it also allows me to continue to promote our small but mighty city on a national stage, alongside my role as deputy chairman of the Local Government Association.”
Alongside Abi, the other new non-executive directors are:
- David Cutter, former Group Chief Executive of Skipton Building Society.
- Ros Kerslake CBE, former Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Peter Vernon, Senior Advisor at Places for London and Chair of Grosvenor Hart Homes.
- Sir Oliver Letwin, former Government minister and former Member of Parliament for West Dorset.
