Volunteers’ Week: kind-hearted employees put their shoulders to the wheel to help community groups

1 min read

With Volunteers’ Week well underway, a Middleport community trust is thanking a broadband and mobile company’s employees for helping out with an environmental project.

A group from the Stoke-on-Trent office of EE joined Middleport Matters to tidy up a green space on Newton Lane, in the city.

Defying wind and rain, the volunteers weeded overgrown areas, painted benches and created artwork using recycled materials.

Alex Littlejohn, volunteer co-ordinator at Middleport Matters, said: “The volunteers worked really hard and absolutely smashed off the tasks that needed to be completed.”

Voluntary action organisation VAST, who brokered EE’s participation, have recently helped a number of other businesses take part in volunteering.

Stoke-based accountancy and tax specialists Sempar launched a number of initiatives to help mental health support group Walk Talk Action including painting shipping containers at a nature retreat.

Industrial systems integrator business Capula, based at Stone, partnered with Emmaus North Staffordshire to help transform their office space.

A team from audit, tax and consulting advisers RSM UK worked across two days to clear overgrown land at Dorothy Clive Garden

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, VAST held a Volunteer Forum to give volunteers in and around Stoke-on-Trent an opportunity to provide valuable insight, share ideas and improve volunteering in the local area.
