A Staffordshire Moorlands company that provides flooring with a difference can count TV celebrities, lifestyle gurus and international companies among its customers.
For the Floor & More, based in Longsdon, near Leek, has produced bespoke flooring for the likes of TV presenter and broadcaster Sarah Beeny and comedian Johnny Vegas’ vintage vehicle glamping experience, based at Melbourne Hall, Derbyshire.
The e-commerce-brand business, which also sells custom-printed wallpaper, has gone on to feature on programmes like DIY SOS and New Life in The Country as well as being featured in The Guardian, Elle Décor, Metro, Period Living and Real Homes.
For the Floor & More was set up in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Joe and Louisa Kennedy, who have extensive experience in the print industry.
Joe said: “It all started in a high street home decor store in Manchester looking out at the expanse of grey and taupe. We wanted something different. Something a bit bolder and a touch brighter so we decided to do something about it.
“Now, eight years on – with new designs and new designers in place – our flooring has been seen at Decorex & the London Coffee Festival.
“It has also featured on TV series including Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country & DIY SOS, plus in bathrooms and kitchens from Bristol to Brighton via Biddulph stopping off in the USA, Canada and across Europe. In this time, we’ve supplied flooring to thousands of homes.”
Among its innovative products, the company has a range of designs licensed with the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. These were based at Gawthorpe Hall, but have recently moved to purpose-built premises to enable a greater number of people to view and use the collection.
The collection which was started around 1912 by Rachel Kay Shuttleworth MBE – then heiress to the Shuttleworth estate – now stands at more than 30,000 items.
For the Floor & More has collaborated with Gawthorpe Textiles to create a range of vinyl floorings inspired by fabric samples taken from the collection.
Other recent contracts have seen the business ship two complete floorings to a Free Nursery in Brooklyn, pictured above, carry out a large restroom renovation for the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel in Manhattan, fit out a trailer park of Airstreams in Miami and work for Cirque du Soleil in the UK and across the globe.
Joe added: “We do ship weekly to North America – predominantly directly to homeowners who are looking for something a little different for their floors.
“We also have shipped our flooring to Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, France, The Netherlands, Ireland and a few other countries across Europe.
“We’re also currently speaking with a producer in Australia to have a presence over there but all design and ‘back end’ service, except for customer support, would still be based here in the Staffs Moorlands.”
