Employers across Stoke-on-Trent are being encouraged to support staff financial wellbeing through a new initiative launching this spring.
The first Credit Union Employer Pledge Day, organised by The Potters Bank, will take place on Wednesday, 20 May and aims to widen access to payroll savings schemes, allowing employees to save directly from their wages into a secure credit union account.
Launched in October 2025 and run by Just Credit Union, The Potters Bank was set up to provide fair and accessible financial services across the city, helping residents build savings, access affordable credit and reduce reliance on high-cost lenders.
The upcoming Pledge Day marks the next stage of the initiative, focusing on partnerships with employers to strengthen financial resilience in the workplace.
A launch event at Jubilee Hall in Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s civic centre will bring together organisations of all sizes to learn more about the scheme and commit to offering it to staff. Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce will also support the event.
Councillor Sarah Hill, cabinet member for finance, anti-poverty and corporate services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “This is about giving people a fair chance to build financial security – starting with something as simple as saving a few pounds directly from their pay.
“For employers, it’s an easy win. It costs nothing, but the impact on staff wellbeing can be significant.”
The free scheme is voluntary for employees and requires minimal administration from employers once in place.
Employers who want to attend Pledge Day, between 10am and noon on Wednesday 20 May, can register here.
