Titanic Brewery to reopen Lichfield city centre pub

1 min read

Titanic Brewery has announced it is opening a pub in Lichfield city centre this summer.

The brewery has completed the acquisition of the Tamworth Street pub formerly known as The Pig.

It is set to open in August under a new name of The Beacon, following a short refurbishment.

The pub will become Titanic Brewery’s 17th location and will create 12 jobs.

“This pub has had various names over the years, and with this new chapter starting in the building’s history, it felt right to give the pub a new name,” said Jonathan Wright, Titanic Brewery’s Head of Retail.

“We asked local residents for their thoughts, and overwhelmingly they wanted something that recognised Titanic’s stewardship of the building, but also had a local link. ‘The Beacon’ was the perfect fit, and we’re really excited to see this new name appear on the building in the coming weeks.”

The name recognises Lichfield’s Beacon Park, a thriving community space that is also home to a statue of the captain of the RMS Titanic, Stoke-on-Trent-born Edward Smith.

The Beacon will be Titanic Brewery’s second location in Lichfield after opening a bod café bar there last July.

Its bar will be stocked with some of Titanic’s most popular beers, which will be joined by ever-changing beers from guest breweries, both local and from further afield.

A selection of wines and spirits will be available, as well as freshly-prepared rolls and other bar snacks.

Local suppliers will be used wherever possible.

There will also be regular live music performances and there are plans for other events in the coming months.

Dave Bott, director of the Stoke-on-Trent-based brewery, said: “In our opinion, pubs play an essential role in keeping communities together and helping them to thrive.

“We are privileged to have the opportunity to re-open the doors of this pub and welcome back local residents and visiting drinkers alike.

“A Titanic pub is a place where people can come together to enjoy great times with great beer, and we are certain that The Beacon will be no different.”

Recruitment has already started.
